Steve Leicach - Observations

I've really felt as a big impact the incredible generosity and sharing of our hosts in Senegal. Friends and family are so much more caretakers of the whole community. The sense of "this is mine," my food, my clothes, my bed that we have in America is not present here. So much more is shared, the physical boundaries between individuals, their lives, possessions, and the community are so much vastly more integrated as a whole.

I feel a sense of caring for the whole community, and a willingness to share what you have and not claim it as your own. In comparison, our lives in America seem very much more separate, somewhat lonely, self-focused, and even very self-centered. I hope we can take the generous spirit of these people home with us, integrating it into our lives in the States.
